Your instructor may cancel a lesson at no charge if any if the following weather conditions are predicted:
Strong winds, heavy rain, or lighting
Severe weather watch, warning, or advisory
Air temperatures below 60°F (10°C) or above 100°F (37.8°C)

How to Make a Payment
For cash payments, please include the following on an envelope:
Your Name
Child’s Name

Date of Lesson(s)
Important Notes
Payments should be made to Swim Lessons by Marena, not to individual instructors. Instructors are paid directly and do not accept payments.
Tipping: If you'd like to tip your instructor for good service, you may do so at the end of the lesson.
If your child has a fever over 100°F, their swim lesson must be canceled or rescheduled. Lessons may resume once your child has remained fever-free (under 100°F) for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications.
If your child experiences two or more episodes of vomiting or diarrhea within 24 hours of their swim lesson, it will need to be canceled or rescheduled. Lessons may resume when your child has been symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
Children with a mild cough or runny nose may still participate in swim lessons, as long as they do not have any of the other symptoms listed above. We kindly ask parents to monitor for any worsening symptoms and to help prevent the spread of germs by ensuring your child is feeling well enough to participate.
Cancellation with Notice
Swim lessons must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance to be rescheduled free of charge. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the lesson are subject to the full lesson fee.
Rescheduling
Rescheduling can be arranged between the parent/guardian and the instructor to find a time that works for both parties. Please note that makeup lessons can be in high demand, so it may take several days or weeks to secure a new time. Lessons canceled due to inclement weather are not rescheduled due to the volume of weather-related cancellations.
No-Shows
If a parent/guardian is not present within the first 5 minutes of the lesson, it will be considered forfeited, and the lesson will not be rescheduled or refunded.
Late Arrival
If a swimmer is late, the missed time will not be made up and will be deducted from the lesson. If an instructor is late, the lost time can either be refunded or made up in a future lesson.
If a group member cancels at least 24 hours before the lesson and the other group members wish to continue, the remaining members will still pay their original rate.
If multiple group members cancel 24 hours in advance, the lesson will need to be canceled or rescheduled. Alternatively, the remaining member(s) can choose to proceed with the lesson at an adjusted rate.
If any group members cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, the lesson may still be held, and present group members will be charged at the regular rate. Late cancellations within group lessons will follow the same 24-hour policy.
Refunds will not be issued for any completed lessons.
If you have prepaid for lessons and wish to cancel, you will receive a refund within 24 hours of cancellation. If you have questions regarding a refund or would like to request a refund for prepaid lessons, reach out to Marena via email at marenavaliton@swimlessonsbymarena.com.
For a lesson to take place, the pool temperature must be at least 70°F (21°C). If the pool temperature is below this threshold, the lesson will be canceled free of charge. Pool temperatures should be checked before each lesson.
The Red Cross recommends the following pool temperatures for lessons:
Infant / Preschool (30 minutes): At least 89.6°F (32°C)
Learn to Swim (ages 6-15, 30 to 45 minutes): At least 84.2°F (29°C)
If the pool temperature is above 70°F (21°C) but does not meet The Red Cross’s recommended temperature for your swimmer’s age or lesson duration, the lesson may be shortened without refund if your child shows signs of discomfort or hypothermia.
Swim lesson progress reports will be sent to parents via email every 4-6 weeks. These outline the skills and safety topics that swimmers are working on, as well as those they’ve already completed with their instructor.
When a swimmer has mastered all the skills for their current level, they will advance to the next level. The levels are designed to track the swimmer's progress and help guide their development. The levels are as follows:
Parent & Child 1, Parent & Child 2
Preschool 1, Preschool 2, Preschool 3
Youth 1, Youth 2, Youth 3, Youth 4, Youth 5, Youth 6
Our swim instructors and staff are 1099 contractors, not employees of Swim Lessons by Marena. Each instructor is responsible for adhering to our policies and managing their own schedule and work hours.
All of our instructors meet the following requirements:
General Liability Insurance
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
In accordance with The Red Cross recommended guidelines, diving of any kind (standing, kneeling, or seated) is prohibited during lessons unless the pool has a minimum depth of 9 feet in an area wide enough to dive safely.
Diving board use is not permitted during lessons for any reason, regardless of pool depth. This includes jumping, diving, climbing, or any activity from the diving board or diving block.
A parent/guardian is responsible for the child’s behavior, conduct, and safety at all times during the lesson. They must maintain visual contact with the child for the entire duration of the lesson.
For lessons outside of the 10-mile radius, a flat-rate travel fee will apply to cover the extra time and automobile use required for travel. The fee is as follows:
15–25 miles: $10 surcharge per lesson
25–50 miles: $20 surcharge per lesson
Travel fees will be added to the total cost of each lesson and are due at the time of payment.
To help reduce travel fees, we encourage families in the same area to schedule multiple lessons on the same day. Please contact us for travel fee discounts or group booking options.
To maintain a safe and clean swimming environment for all participants, we recommend the following pool safety and maintenance protocols:
Water Quality Monitoring - Regularly test and maintain proper disinfectant and pH levels to ensure water safety at all times.
Water Clarity - Ensure good water clarity by maintaining effective disinfection, water circulation, and filtration.
Debris Removal - Keep the pool free of debris by vacuuming frequently.
These procedures are designed to provide a safe, hygienic, and enjoyable swimming experience for all.
To ensure swimmers can focus and get the most out of their lessons, it is important to minimize loud disruptions and distractions. This includes activities such as lawn mowing, landscaping, construction, large family gatherings, or any other noise that may interfere with the lesson.
To ensure the safety of all swimmers, when one swimmer is working with the instructor, all other swimmers must remain in their designated "safe spot" (e.g., top stair, pool ledge, etc.) until it is their turn.
The instructor may allow more than one child to leave the safe spot under the following conditions:
Each swimmer is capable of swimming at least one pool length.
The swimmers are in chest-deep or shallower water.
Each swimmer is equipped with an adequate flotation device.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that children stay in their designated safe spot at all times unless one of the above conditions is met.
